Shoe addict? Wearing Louboutins when you’re broke.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before but I have a wee addiction to shoes. At one stage I had Hubster build me a walk in shoe closet, somewhat reminiscent of Carries – Sex in the City.
not my actual closet but a close representation!
One of the things I did to ease our cash flow was to sell many pairs of my beautiful, hardly worn pumps, boots and purses and let me tell you, each one was a wrench but I told myself – every pair of shoes deserves to truly live and mine were not having any kind of life. You know – on account of us never going out anymore 🙂
Since getting back into our groove I have been very Frugal in my purchases. Indeed – this year I have added only TWO pairs to the
inventory and both were a need and not a want. One was an elegant pair of royal blue pumps and the other – the all obligatory Nudes!
In doing my research I came across a site The Budget Babe and one post from 2007 had me soo intrigued. At first glance it appeared to be a bit of a filler with not much writing and then..
The comments.
Oh My.
Imitation shoes create such emotion in people!
I spent quite a long time reading the shock, the horror, the love, the appreciation and my original idea to give you more of the same went out the window but here’s the gist of what was written:
People love designer shoes and most really can’t afford them so – is it OK to purchase imitation? By imitation I’m talking….

Reading through the comments of the haters there is no love lost for people who cheat (really – is that what we’re calling it now?) but in all seriousness, unless you’re a Kardashian you’re not shopping at Loubies on a daily basis now.
What I don’t advocate is purchasing Fakes. Fakes are not the same as imitation. I can go online now (usually to China) and purchase fake Loubies for a fraction of the cost but this is wrong. Christian Louboutin has a business and I don’t care how well that business is doing; taking trade away from that business by purporting to be wearing his merchandise when you know that your shoes came from a sweat shop in China is NOT COOL people. So – what are the alternatives?
A little more research and voila, Mon Cherie: Louboutin Outlet store.
Here I’m finding real Loubies for the same price as your high street Jessica Simpsons!
Granted – these are seasons old but do you really think that matters? Nope, you’re not on the cover of Hello magazine and so most of the people you know won’t care!
What if Louboutins are not your thing?
Another fabulous shoe is Fluevog (Hi Cheryl!). I have a girlfriend who invests (that’s right “invests”) in these absolutely show stopping shoes.
John Fluevog is a Canadian shoe designer. His shoes are noted for their progressive, art deco inspired styles and people who know shoes – know Fluevog. These shoes are a guaranteed conversation starter.
So – how can I get some show stopping shoes and not at the full price – from a little site known as Poshmark. Here people sell their previously loved or mistake purchases for a fraction of the original cost:-
I tell ya people – if these were my size they’d be in my cart right now. Brand new with tags and almost 50% off the original price. It doesn’t get better than that.
Another site for Fluevog’s is Gravity Pope. Their sales are excellent (currently 30% off at checkout with coupon code) so these little beauties… would be $230 instead of $329.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is that you can have fabulous, designer shoes without resorting to fakes, even if you’re on a budget. A little research goes a long way and if you are investing any kind of decent money in anything, doesn’t it pay to do your research.
One last little tip / giveaway:-
We went to Shoe warehouse this week for number one child to purchase some work wear shoes and found these ON SALE at $4.99 a pair (that’s FIVE dollars). If you have a wedding coming up and are trying to do classy on a tight, shoestring budget then here you go:-

Great shoes can be found for any budget and it has been said that the first impression anyone makes is through their shoes. This is how you can set apart (for the most part) those with money and those without, even if they’re wearing sweat pants and a tank. On a personal note – Walmart plastic shoes make my feet sweat and stink so… I will definitely spend the extra to avoid that horrible feeling. 🙂 Was that TMI??
Let me know where you go to buy those killer heels at a discount price. I may just love you forever!
